SOUTH AMERICA Part 1 - Rio de Janeiro

RIO DE JANEIRO

South America! - here we come after travelling a distance of 12,295 miles and almost 26 hours of flying time (minus delays and waiting time at airports) from Singapore via Frankfurt, Madrid to Rio de Janeiro.

a. Christ the Redeemer Statue

Christ Statue at Corcovada Mountain in Rio de Janeiro is one of the wonders of the World and is 98 feet tall. It was projected and built by the Brazilian engineer, Heitor da Silva Costa and completed in 1931. It is an awe-inspiring iconic structure which overlooks the city.

To get to the top, we had to take the cog train which made its way through the lush Brazilian rainforest.

The view from the top is really breathtakingly beautiful and astonishing.

Another beautiful view from the Corcovada Mountain.

Another pic - this time of us - the three Yeo sisters - from left: Tiang (me), Khin and Ngoh.

This time with another "sister", Brenda and our pretty niece, Hsiao Yun... That's the Sugar Loaf Mountain in the background which we visited later the same afternoon.

Another angle - this time from the Christ statue outwards.

Yes, we endorse Christ the Redeemer Statue as one of the Wonders of the world - a "die die " must visit tourist destination.
